Art Works Now Angel Wings
Colette Miller created these wings as part of her Global Angel Wings Project to remind humanity that we are the Angels of the Earth. Since 2012, she has traveled all around the world including Kenya, Australia, England, Japan, Cuba, Mexico, all over the USA, and we are proud to host her work at Art Works Now!
Art Works Now Mural
In February 2024, we unveiled our new onsite mural. “The Garden of Imagination” was created by University of Maryland students enrolled in Creative Placemaking Fall ’23 “Painting on Site Studio” taught by visiting lecturer Ben Edwards. Inspired by the Art Works Now tagline “Create the world you imagine” students, in collaboration with AWN staff, designed the mural to celebrate the power of art and imagination to illustrate what draws us together as a community. We welcome you to Art Works Now to view this colorful new installation. Take a photo and tag us @artworksnow and use the #CreateTheWorldYouImagine
Art Works Now Teen Mural
Under the guidance of Teaching Artist Maddie Olek, local teens seeking arts learning and community connection participated in an immersive 8 week class to develop, design, and paint our newest mural. The program was designed to enhance students’ artistic skills and encourage thoughtful dialogue and collaboration. Thanks to grant funding from the City of Hyattsville and Prince George’s Arts & Humanities Council, the class was free to participants.
Art Works Now Kinetic Sculpture
The 22-foot-tall kinetic flower sculpture, created in 2015 through a collaboration between AWN and Prince George’s County students, just received a refresh. Local artist Howard Connelly added stained glass pieces, making it shine brighter. The sculpture, “Wind Vane of the Helenium Autumnale,” was inspired by sketches from Chance Academy students, highlighting the importance of the environment. “Healing our place on the planet through art action was the core of the approach,” says Executive Director Aimee Olivo. The sculpture stands in front of the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment at 1801 McCormick Drive, Largo, Maryland.
